When saffron gets associated with any skincare product, a premium tag gets associated with that skincare product. It is safe to say that red gold is a symbol of luxury retailing for as much as Rs. 300,000 per kg. Some of the reasons why saffron is considered the most expensive spice in the world are

1. Saffron, also known as Crocus sativus, flowers once a year in autumn, and the flower remains for 6 to 8 weeks.

2. It takes 150,000 flowers to make 1 kg of saffron.

3. Saffron is grown in a very specific environment that is available in limited geographical area.

Table of Content:

Only a tiny part of the crocus flower (the stigma) is used, and that too requires handpicking each individual flower at precisely the right time. This makes it extremely labor-intensive and time-consuming to produce even a small quantity of saffron, making saffron the most expensive spice in the world.

Another reason why saffron is very expensive is because of its tremendous benefits in diet as well as skincare

Some of the key benefits of Saffron in diet are:

1. Saffron can flavor an entire dish

2. As per research published in NIH, Saffron plays a key role in curing different digestive disorders.

3. Saffron contains potassium that helps to keep blood pressure in check.

Saffron is being measured on a weighing scale.

4. As per research in NIH, saffron contains antioxidants that may be healthy for the brain and nervous system

Ayurveda says that you shall not apply on your skin what you can not eat. Nothing can be better testimony for this statement, as Saffron has equal advantages in diet as well as in skincare products.

Some of the key benefits for skincare products are:

1. Skin Brightening: Saffron contains key compounds like crocin and crocetin that help to inhibit melanin production, thereby helping in Skin brightening.

2. Anti-Aging: Super rich in antioxidants, saffron fights free radicals, thereby helping the skin in anti-aging.

3. Saffron is anti-inflammatory and antifungal. Because of this, it could help to prevent acne by fighting acne-causing bacteria.

Given the enormous benefits for saffron as a skincare ingredient, it is only apt that we shall add this spice to our skincare routine. Here is a DIY recipe to make saffron at home to brighten your skin.
