Science Backed Benefits
Findings: In a short study of five women aged 25 to 60, researchers applied 6% cocoa powder to the forearm and took skin samples after 1 and 2 hours. The analysis revealed that both catechin and epicatechin were present in the outer skin layer (stratum corneum), with slightly higher quantities at 2 hours than at 1 hour. These findings indicate that cocoa polyphenols, when applied topically, can deposit into the skin, underlining their potential function in skincare for antioxidant protection and skin health.
